Liverpool chasing Franck Honorat

Liverpool are reportedly exploring a surprise summer move for Borussia Mönchengladbach winger Franck Honorat as Arne Slot searches for greater creativity and depth in attacking areas ahead of the 2026-27 season.

The French winger may not carry the same global profile as some of Europe’s elite forwards, but his performances in Germany have attracted growing attention from Premier League scouts over the past year. At 29, Honorat would represent a very different type of signing for Liverpool — experienced, direct and potentially available at a relatively affordable price.

During the 2025-26 Bundesliga season, Honorat recorded two goals and six assists while creating 45 chances in league play. He also completed 37 successful crosses and ranked among the Bundesliga’s most productive wide creators. His underlying numbers have been particularly impressive, averaging over two key passes per game while placing among the league’s stronger performers for expected assists from open play.

What has caught Liverpool’s attention is his stylistic profile. Honorat is an old-fashioned wide player in many ways — quick, aggressive and constantly looking to deliver early balls into the box. With Liverpool continuing to evolve under Slot, there is believed to be interest in adding a winger capable of stretching play naturally rather than constantly drifting centrally.

Financially, the move would be far cheaper than many of Liverpool’s other attacking targets. Reports suggest Borussia Mönchengladbach could be willing to sell for somewhere between €12-15 million, largely because of Honorat’s age and the club’s willingness to reshape their squad this summer. That would place the transfer fee at roughly £10-13 million, making him one of the more cost-effective options on Liverpool’s shortlist.

There is also a belief that Liverpool see Honorat as a squad-enhancing signing rather than a guaranteed starter. The club are expected to strengthen multiple attacking positions this summer, particularly with ongoing uncertainty surrounding the futures of several forwards.

Competition for the Frenchman is beginning to build as well. Clubs in France and Italy are monitoring his situation closely, while Premier League sides outside the traditional top six are also believed to have made enquiries. However, the opportunity to join Liverpool and compete for major honours could prove decisive if the Reds decide to formalise their interest.
