Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly planning to beat Manchester United in the pursuit of West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes this summer.

The London giants are planning to land two marquee midfielders this summer. They have already failed with an £80m bid for Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali, and are prepared to make a fresh move.

Similarly, the club hold a keen interest in Fernandes and The Daily Mail claim that they are now willing to meet the £85m valuation to bring the Portuguese midfielder across London this summer.

Fernandes has been holding out for a move to the Red Devils in recent weeks, but United have shown no intention of meeting the reported price tag.

This should hand a genuine advantage to Spurs, and reports claim that the 21-year-old could eventually be convinced to join Roberto De Zerbi’s side.

Spurs are likely to present with a formal offer for Fernandes in the coming days. It remains to be seen whether United compete with a strong bid.
