Atalanta right-back Marco Palestra will undergo his medical with Chelsea on Friday before putting pen to paper on a long-term deal.

The Italian was one of the best full-backs in Serie A last season and had a fantastic season on loan with Cagliari from Atalanta.

Inter were leading the pursuit of his services earlier this month, but the Blues recently hijacked the deal with an offer worth Â£47m.

They have since agreed on personal terms with the 21-year-old and Fabrizio Romano reports that a medical is scheduled tomorrow.

Once that is completed, he will sign a long-term contract with Chelsea until June 2032 with the option for another 12 months.

Palestra is widely regarded as one of the best emerging talents in Italian football and Chelsea have made a statement by landing him.

He looked poised to move to the Nerazzurri at one point, but have managed to prise him away ahead of the Serie A champions.
