The UK’s largest Harry Potter shop will open on London’s Oxford Street in November, Warner Bros has announced.

The flagship store, which will span more than 21,000 sq ft (1,951 sq m) over two floors, will open within The Ribbon development at 134-140 Oxford Street on 4 November.

Warner Bros said the store was inspired by the magical shopping street Diagon Alley, and would feature a dragon towering over Gringotts bank, a full-sized Knight Bus, and The Leaky Cauldron pub where visitors can enjoy food and Butterbeer drinks.

The New West End Company called the store a “great example” of an “immersive and leisure experience” for the nation’s high street.

The shop will be the second official Harry Potter retail destination in the UK after the site at King’s Cross Station.

Karl Durrant, Warner Bros senior vice-president of worldwide retail, said opening the shop in London was “a truly special milestone”.

“There’s no better place to create a destination that celebrates the magic, creativity and storytelling that has captivated generations of fans around the world,” he said.

Oxford Street is one of the world’s busiest shopping areas, with around half a million visitors each day.

Rachel McCulloch, from the New West End Company, a Business Improvement District (BID), said the retail landscape had shifted from transactional retail towards immersive leisure experiences that cannot be replicated online.

“As the nation’s high street, Oxford Street is well placed to lead this evolution,” McCulloch said.

“Culture and leisure consistently rank as the second most important reason for visiting the district in our on-street surveys.”

McCulloch said the Warner Bros store was one of a growing number of “major investments” on Oxford Street, alongside Puma, Space NK, M&S Pantheon and Zara having either opened or expanded on the street.

“Continued investment in Oxford Street’s public realm is so important,” she said.

“We have long championed the regeneration of Oxford Street and strongly support efforts to strengthen its global appeal.”
