Marcus Smith is set to make his 200th appearance for Harlequins on Sunday when they take on London rivals Saracens at The Stoop.

The 27-year-old England fly-half made his Quins debut in September 2017, aged 18, and has gone on to score 1,809 points, including 49 tries.

“He’s one of the best in the world in that position, and we’re lucky to have him at our club,” Quins head coach Jason Gilmore said.

“It’d be great for the boys to be able to put in a good shift for him, so he can get a good result on the weekend.”

Harlequins are also set to welcome back England loosehead prop Fin Baxter for the Saracens game, after a 10-month injury lay-off, although Samoan tighthead Titi Lamositele remains sidelined.

Achieving an appearance milestone in a London derby will mean a lot to Smith.

He joined Harlequins’ development pathway at the age of 14, and was the second-youngest fly-half to play in England’s top flight when he made his debut against London Irish more than nine years ago.

He has gone on to win 56 caps for England and been part of two British and Irish Lions squads.

Smith missed the start of the 2026-27 season with a finger injury but made up for lost time when he scored twice on his return to action, in the 28-24 defeat by Sale Sharks earlier this month.

He also crossed twice in the 57-19 win over Vannes in the Champions Cup last weekend.

Quins finished in a lowly ninth position in the Prem last season, their worst finish in eight years, and are at the foot of the table after three defeats this term.

And Gilmore admits academy graduate Smith is “desperate for the club to do well”.

“He’s understanding where we’re at,” Gilmore said. “He can see the signs that are coming through, particularly with our attack shape.

“I don’t think we’re far away from playing our best rugby, which is exciting for us as a club, and Smithy’s crucial to that.”

Baxter’s return comes after two operations on a foot injury. The 24-year-old has not played since the Champions Cup win over Bayonne last December.

“He’s such an important player for us,” Gilmore added.

“He gives us stability at the scrum, he’s a big body in the line-out maul for us as well.

“He’s just got such a good work-rate around the field. We’ve certainly missed him.”
