Arsenal are rumoured to be frontrunners to sign Karim Konate from Red Bull Salzburg, as the 22-year-old Ivory Coast forward has indicated he wants to move to the Premier League. There are uncertainties over the long-term future of Viktor Gyokeres at the Gunners, and Konate is seen as the best available replacement.
Having came through the ranks at Ivorian club ASEC Mimosas, a move to Red Bull Salzburg followed with a short stint at feeder club FC Liefering. Konate has been in excellent goalscoring form for Salzburg, this season kicking off as the division’s top scorer.
Several clubs have been linked with Konate, but Arsenal are the club prepared to pay the 35 million euro transfer asking price for the striker. Scouts from Arsenal have been monitoring the player in action for several months.
Gyokeres could depart for Spain in January with Atletico Madrid known to be long-term admirers of the Swedish striker, who helped to grab an assist in this week’s visit to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
