Champions Cup team news as four Prem sides play on Sunday

This post was originally published on this site.

The Champions Cup reaches the final day of pool matches on Sunday with Prem teams Bristol, Harlequins, Northampton and Saracens all in action.

Bristol take on reigning champions Bordeaux (13:00 GMT) to decide who finishes top of Pool 4 before Northampton entertain Scarlets (15:15) seeking to finish second in the pool.

Harlequins travel to La Rochelle (15:15) seeking to finish second in Pool 3 before Saracens face Pool 1 leaders Glasgow Warriors (17:30) aiming to confirm their place in the last 16.

Glasgow, Sale Sharks, Leinster, Harlequins, Bordeaux, Bristol and Northampton all qualified for the last 16 last weekend.

English champions Bath thrashed Edinburgh on Friday to go through as Pool 2 winners, but the Scottish side face an anxious wait to see if they will progress.

Six-time winners Toulouse, who thrashed an inexperienced Sale side 77-7, Stormers, Castres, Toulon and Edinburgh all reached the knockout stage on Saturday.

Leicester, who lost to Stormers in Cape Town, are still hoping to qualify but need Harlequins to beat La Rochelle and deny the French side a bonus point to make it.

Gloucester are out while Munster drop down to the Challenge Cup.

As well as live text updates, there is live radio commentary on BBC Sounds, the BBC Sport website and the BBC Sport app on the key games.

All the team news and line-ups for Sunday’s matches featuring sides from the English Prem can be found below.

How qualifying works

Teams finishing in the top four of their pool qualify for the last 16 knockout stage.

Sides finishing in the top two of their pool guarantee a home tie.

Fifth-placed sides will go into the Challenge Cup.

The bottom team will be eliminated from all European competition.

It’s four points for a win, two for a draw and there are bonus points available for scoring four tries and losing by seven points or fewer.

Bristol v Bordeaux

Ellis Genge, Harry Randall and Louis Rees-Zammit come back into the starting 15 as Pat Lam makes three changes for the visit of holders Bordeaux.

Noah Heward keeps his place on the wing after a first-half hat-trick in last week’s 61-49 win over the Bulls while Kalavati Ravouvou is on the opposite flank after his two tries in that extraordinary 110-point game.

Fitz Harding captains the team in an unchanged back row alongside Santiago Grondona and Viliame Mata.

Both teams have already qualified from Pool 4 with this game deciding who will finish top and secure a home game in the round of 16.

Bordeaux make two changes from last week’s hammering of Northampton, with full-back Salesi Rayasi on the bench despite scoring a hat-trick against Saints. He is replaced by Romain Buros, with the other switch seeing Boris Palu come into the second row.

Damian Penaud, Louis Bielle-Biarrey, Mathieu Jalibert and another hat-trick scorer in the Saints win, Cameron Woki, all start.

Northampton v Scarlets

Fraser Dingwall returns to captain the already-qualified Saints as they aim to secure home advantage in the round of 16.

England fly-half Fin Smith has been ruled out with a calf strain so Anthony Belleau and Alex Mitchell form the half-back partnership that also began last week’s heavy Pool 4 defeat by Bordeaux.

Tommy Freeman starts at centre, there are two changes in the front row as Emmanel Iyogun and Robbie Smith come into the side, and Chunya Munga will join JJ van der Mescht in the second row.

Scarlets make three changes from the 47-38 defeat by Pau as Wales fly-half Sam Costelow returns. Full-back Jac Davies and lock Max Douglas are also recalled in Nigel Davies’ first game back in charge.

The visitors need a bonus-point win to clinch their place in the last 16 after Bulls’ dramatic win over Pau on Friday kept the Welsh side’s hopes alive.

Line-ups

La Rochelle v Harlequins

Harlequins make one change from their thumping 61-10 win over the Stormers last week with experienced lock Joe Launchbury coming in to make his 50th appearance for the club.

Kieran Treadwell drops to the bench with Quins captained by number eight Alex Dombrandt, who is joined by Chandler Cunningham-South and Jack Kenningham in the back row.

Marcus Smith and Lucas Friday continue their half-back combination at the Stade Marcel Deflandre.

Harlequins have already qualified for the round of 16 but are aiming to finish in Pool 3’s top two to earn home advantage in the next round.

Ronan O’Gara’s two-time champions La Rochelle need one point to confirm their place in the last 16 – and eliminate Leicester Tigers.

France international prop Uini Atonio captains the side which conceded a last-minute penalty to lose 25-24 to Leinster last weekend, while England wing Jack Nowell is among the substitutes.

Line-ups

La Rochelle: Leyds; Niniashvili; Seuteni, Daunivucu, Bollengier; West, Berjon; Kaddouri, Latu, Atonio (capt), Kante Samba, Boudehent, Jegou, Botia, Cancoriet.

Glasgow Warriors v Saracens

Owen Farrell starts at centre as director of rugby Mark McCall makes four changes from last week’s win over Toulouse for Saracens’ contest with unbeaten Pool 1 leaders Glasgow.

The former England captain is among three changes to the back line. He is joined by Lucio Cinti in midfield and Max Malins replaces young winger Noah Caluori, who is named among the replacements.

England number eight Ben Earl replaces Tom Willis as the only change in the forwards, with Maro Itoje skippering the side from the second row.

Scotland international Rory Darge returns to the back-row amid two Glasgow Warriors changes. Euan Ferrie drops to the bench and Matt Fagerson switches back to blindside.

In the backs, Jamie Dobie is rested with Ollie Smith coming in to replace him on the wing and scrum-half George Horne is set to make his 150th Warriors appearance.

Only a heavy defeat will prevent Saracens confirming their place in the last 16 while they could still win the pool if they secure a bonus-point win and stop the Warriors gaining a bonus point of their own.

Glasgow will be seeking to make it four bonus-point wins from four games to top the pool.

Line-ups

Glasgow Warriors: Rowe, Steyn (capt), Jones, S Tuipulotu, Smith; Lancaster, Horne; Schickerling, Hiddleston, Z Fagerson, Craig, Cummings, M Fagerson, Darge, Dempsey.

Replacements: Stephen, Sutherland, Talakai, Williamson, Brown, Ferrie, McDowall, Afshar.

Saracens: Daly; Malins, Cinti, Farrell, Segun; Burke, van Zyl; Mawi, George, Street, Itoje (capt), Tizard, McFarland, Gonzalez, Earl.

Replacements: Hadfield, Carre, Riccioni, Onyeama-Christie, Willis, Bracken, Hartley, Caluori.
