Arsenal have been handed a boost in signing Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez following Barcelona’s recent change of stance.
The Gunners were keen on landing the World Cup winner from Atletico this summer, but the striker refused to entertain the move.
Alvarez was adamant about joining the Blaugrana and ultimately stayed at Atletico, who declined to do business with their rivals at any cost.
The Argentine has since been a regular substitute for Atletico, and it now appears Barcelona won’t return for him at the turn of the year.
Barcelona sporting director Deco recently said Alvarez is now in the past and acknowledged the club may not revisit their interest.
This could be a good thing for the Gunners, who could make a renewed effort to bring him to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Alvarez has been reluctant to return to the Premier League due to residency concerns for his family, and it remains a stumbling block.
