Arsenal make 55m offer to sign Bruno Guimaraes

Arsenal have made a verbal offer worth £55 million to sign Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Brazil international has been one of the Premier League’s best-performing midfielders, and he could be open to a bigger challenge this summer.

The Magpies finished mid-table last season and won’t be playing in Europe. They have evidently regressed over the last 12 months under manager Eddie Howe.

Romano has now revealed that the Gunners recently made a verbal offer of £55m for the 28-year-old, which was immediately rejected.

The Magpies won’t discuss a deal at the price, but the Gunners plan to come back with a renewed proposal for the former Lyon midfielder.

It remains to be seen whether they can persuade the Tyneside outfit to part ways with the Brazilian, who has been their best player for a while.

Guimaraes, who made 15 goal contributions last campaign, is presently at the World Cup and has left his representatives to handle his future.
