Arsenal have decided against pursuing a deal for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali this summer, according to The Chronicle.

The Gunners were touted to land the Italian star at the start of the year. His agent made contact about a surprise deal, but no offer was made.

Arsenal have continued to be linked with the former AC Milan man, but they have no plans of meeting his current weekly wage demands.

Tonali has asked for Â£275,000 per week in basic salary with the promise of a 10 percent commission to his agent as part of the transfer.

Arsenal have moved out of the race as a result, and they are instead focused on landing the services of Bruno Guimaraes from the Magpies.

A formal bid of around Â£45 million was made for the 28-year-old, but it was swiftly snubbed. A fresh offer is expected to come soon.

Arsenal have received encouragement that the Brazil international would be open to joining them during the ongoing transfer window.
