Chelsea have confirmed that Pedro Neto has put pen to paper on a fresh five-year contract with the option for another 12 months.

The Portuguese was linked with a move away from the Blues this summer, and he was a top target for Manchester City and Al-Hilal.

However, neither of those clubs was willing to meet the £100m valuation, and Neto has since evolved into a key player for the Blues.

Neto has dazzled as a right wing-back for the west London giants and has already earned plenty of praise from manager Xabi Alonso.

The Blues have now decided to reward him with a new long-term deal with a pay rise following his consistent performances this term.

Neto faces direct competition from Estevao and Geovany Quenda, but he is currently the league regular for the right wing-back slot.

Things could change in the long run, given summer signing Marco Palestra is likely to feature in the position once he is back to full fitness.
