Chelsea have asked about Roma full-back – Romano

Chelsea have made a formal enquiry to Roma about defender Wesley, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues recently parted ways with left-back Marc Cucurella. The Spaniard was sold to Real Madrid in a deal worth £52 million.

Chelsea are determined to bring in a suitable replacement, and reports claim that the Blues have enquired about Roma’s Wesley.

The Brazilian signed for the Giallorossi from Flamengo last summer, and he had a good debut season with seven goal contributions.

Wesley was primarily a right-back at Flamengo, but he has played predominantly as a left wing-back during his time at Roma.

Blues boss Xabi Alonso prefers a three-man system, and Wesley would be a good signing, given his strong defensive and offensive attributes.

However, it appears Roma are reluctant to part ways with the Brazilian, having qualified for the Champions League next season.

They still need to balance their books before the end of the June, but seem prepared to offload other players instead of Wesley.
