Chelsea make final Enzo Fernandez decision

Chelsea have decided to keep midfielder Enzo Fernandez after Manchester City refused to meet the asking price before today’s 5pm deadline.

The Argentine has been widely linked with a move away from the Blues this summer, and Man City are currently the most interested club.

However, a transfer seems unlikely to happen any longer. Fernandez had verbally agreed on a release clause worth £120m for the summer.

That option expired earlier today at 5pm. Man City were given the opportunity to meet the price but have decided against doing so.

Hence, the Blues are no longer expected to entertain offers for the Argentine, and he looks poised to stay for the new campaign.

Fernandez has been quiet about the speculation over his future and it remains to be seen whether he tries to push for a departure.

If the World Cup winner hands in a transfer request, there is a possibility that Chelsea could negotiate, given he would give up loyalty bonuses.
