Chelsea are keen on landing the signature of Brighton & Hove Albion striker Danny Welbeck this summer, according to David Ornstein.

The west London giants have partly changed their transfer policy under new boss Xabi Alonso, and the focus is on tried-and-tested players.

Alonso is also keen on landing experienced cover in the squad and has his sights on securing the services of Welbeck from Brighton.

The 35-year-old has improved with age and had a fine 2025/26 campaign with Seagulls, netting 13 goals in the Premier League campaign.

He was not picked in England’s squad despite this, but it appears he could be set for a high-profile transfer to the Blues this summer.

Welbeck is said to be tempted to return to London after his time at Arsenal, and Chelsea are locked in negotiations to land him soon.

Brighton could accept a nominal fee to part ways with the Manchester United graduate. A move could happen in the next few days.
