Glasgow Warriors began their United Rugby Championship season in fine style as an impressive second-half turnaround earned a bonus-point win over Munster at Thomond Park.

The Irish outfit deservedly led at half-time after Ben O’Connor and Michael Milne crossed for tries either side of Jamie Dobie’s score for Glasgow.

However, Glasgow grew in stature after the interval and turned the game on its head thanks to scores from Nathan McBeth, George Horne and Dobie.

Franco Smith’s side, who topped the URC table last season before a heartbreaking semi-final defeat by Bulls at Murrayfield, started in sluggish fashion and were punished by the hosts.

After JJ Hanrahan kicked Munster in front, Warriors centre Ollie Smith was yellow carded for a deliberate knock-on and O’Connor made the numerical advantage count, crossing in the corner after a slick backs move.

Dobie hit back for Glasgow on his 100th appearance for the club, darting over from close range, but Munster restored their 10-point advantage soon after.

Munster prop Milne crashed over after a spell of possession for the hosts and they appeared on course for victory at half-time.

It was a different story after the break though as Glasgow found their groove.

A brilliant carry from replacement hooker Seb Stephen put the visitors on the front foot and fellow substitute McBeth took advantage to power over the line.

Hanrahan kicked another penalty for Munster, but that was their only score of the second half, with Glasgow piling pressure on the tiring home defence.

Dobie took the Warriors to within touching distance of the line and Horne sniped for the visitors’ third try. He converted his own score off the tee from out wide to put Glasgow in front for the first time.

And in the closing stages they made sure of a five-point victory as the impressive Dobie sprinted into the corner.

Glasgow host Ulster next weekend seeking to make it two wins from two, while Munster face Bulls.
