Gloucester sign Connacht lock Joyce for 2026-27

Gloucester have signed lock Joe Joyce from Connacht Rugby for the 2026-27 season.

The 31-year-old joined the United Rugby Championship side in 2022, having previously spent 10 years with Gloucester’s Prem rivals Bristol Bears.

The second-row has played 46 matches in all competitions for the Irish province so far, including nine games this campaign.

“I’m really excited about making the move to Gloucester and getting back into Prem Rugby next season, it’s a fantastic opportunity for me,” Joyce said.

“I’m someone who prides myself on working hard, setting high standards, and using my experience to help drive the group forward.”

Joyce, who is from Bristol, previously played 151 games for his hometown club between 2014 and 2023.

He is Gloucester’s fifth signing for next season, and the fourth forward to agree to join as the Cherry and Whites look to significantly strengthen their pack.

South African lock Jean Kleyn, Wales captain Jac Morgan and fellow international Dewi Lake and scrum-half Dan Robson have already agreed terms at Kingsholm.

“Joe has plenty of big game experience and he’ll be great for the younger guys in the building, like Freddie [Thomas] and Arthur [Clark], to lean on with the leadership qualities he possesses,” added Gloucester director of rugby George Skivington.
