Manchester United are preparing a formal move for Crystal Palace left-back Tyrick Mitchell.
The Red Devils were touted to land a new left-back this summer, but could not find a suitable solution before the deadline.
Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall was a top target for the Mancunian giants, but the youngster was not for sale at any price.
Hall has since signed a new long-term contract without a release clause and has indicated his desire to stay for several years.
It is now claimed that United are keeping a close eye on Mitchell instead and believe he could be signed on the cheap this winter.
The 27-year-old’s contract with the Eagles expires in June next year, and Palace are yet to convince him to renew.
Should the standoff extend into the New Year, United could get the chance to land the Englishman for a knockdown price.
It is claimed that he could be purchased for around £20m. A similar fee was paid by Manchester City for Marc Guehi last winter after he entered the last six months of his contract at the Eagles.
