Manchester United could revive their long-term interest in signing Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite this winter.

The Red Devils have been disappointing in the first four games of the Premier League season, picking up only four points.

Their defensive performances have been pretty poor, and the club could target a new central defender at the turn of the year.

United would ideally prefer a left-footed centre-back who is also capable of playing as a left-back when the situation requires.

Branthwaite is more than capable of operating in both roles, and reports claim that United are weighing up a winter move for him.

The Englishman previously agreed on personal terms with United a few years ago, but they ended up signing Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro.

The Red Devils were reluctant to meet the Â£80m price tag for his services at the time and still believe they could sign him for a lower fee.

Everton have a limited squad at their disposal with the lack of sufficient spending this summer and could be reluctant to discuss a winter deal.
