Real Madrid are weighing up a shock move for Arsenal defender Piero Hincapie this summer, according to ESPN.

The La Liga giants have been busy bolstering their backline and have already signed Ibrahima Konate and Marc Cucurella.

Madrid are also expected to land Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries and it appears they are now keen on landing the services of Hincapie.

Los Blancos manager Jose Mourinho has urged the hierarchy to land a left-footed centre-back who can play as a full-back too.

Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck was the priority target, but he recently sustained a serious injury at the World Cup.

Hence, Madrid are looking at alternative options and have enquired about the availability of Hincapie in the current window.

The Ecuadorian signed for the Gunners on loan from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, but Arsenal have a conditional obligation to buy him.

They have already made the decision to trigger the Â£45 million release clause and it could be formally announced in the coming days.
