Tottenham Hotspur have reached a verbal agreement with Atletico Madrid to sign midfielder Conor Gallagher, according to The Athletic.

The England international left the Blues for Atletico in the summer of 2024 and had a good debut campaign under manager Diego Simeone.

However, he has since fallen out-of-favour with regular substitute appearances and has now decided to return to the English top flight.

Aston Villa initially attempted to land him on loan with a buy option, but Spurs have now won the race, having proposed a permanent deal.

They have agreed to pay £35 million for the former Chelsea graduate, who has accepted personal terms over a contract until June 2031.

It is only a matter of time before Gallagher returns to the English capital with Spurs, who are languishing 14th in the league as of now.

Gallagher has the knack for making goal contributions from midfield, and could have a key role to play in helping Spurs climb up the table.
