Best for: A lush city stay
The Dreamcatcher is a whitewashed, clay-tiled, bougainvillea-trimmed house that looks like a typical Ocean Park hacienda outside, and a Zen sanctuary inside, with Buddha statues, hammocks, fountains, lazy ceiling fans, and handmade dreamcatchers. Set in the gated neighborhood of Ocean Park, Dreamcatcher is one block from the beach and a five-minute walk to bustling, artsy Loiza Street. (Old San Juan is also 10-minutes away by car.) Owner Sylvia De Marco carefully curated the adults-only space to be maximally relaxing, connecting New Age elements with ages-old antique furniture and crystals. Opened just over a decade ago, it holds the title of San Juan’s first and only (so far) vegetarian hotel. (For what it’s worth, the colorful Casa Botánica is a vegan boutique hotel in San Juan.) Along with a plunge pool and private outdoor terraces, the adults-only property also offers daily yoga on the beach, meditation classes, and salsa nights. Water sports, eco-tours, and culinary tours can be arranged, too. —K.S.
