Bed & bath: 1 bed (3 futons), shared bath
Top amenities: Mount Fuji views, Japanese garments, patio with seating, hot spring bath, lake access
This family-run ryokan has been in business for over forty-five years, and as a result, has mastered the art of service, which is unfussy yet comfortable, and most importantly, authentic. Complimentary coffee and green tea are available in their shared lounge each morning, where fine art paintings and elegant garments hang proudly on display. Other amenities include a microwave, toaster, and fridge; and while bathrooms are communal, there is also a modestly sized onsen (Japanese hot spring bath), treating guests to a mineral-rich dip. The private space is limited to the three futon beds in a vintage-style bedroom, each blanketed with satin floral bedspreads. At their feet, sliding shoji doors reveal two wooden chairs, with pale pink cushions, a coffee table, and a vast window. A room with a view is an understatement here, as the window frames are perfectly positioned to capture the imposing Mount Fuji in all its snowcapped, cloud-piercing glory.
