The British and Irish Lions hero has hung up his boots after a glitter career that spanned two decades
Leigh Halfpenny struggled to hold back the tears as he paid tribute to his wife following his decision to retire from professional rugby.
The Wales legend made the announcement on Tuesday evening, bringing the curtain down on a 20-year career that yielded 101 international caps and 801 points.
In a video thanking all of those to have played a part in his brilliant career, Halfpenny got particularly emotional when talking about his wife Jess.
He said: “To Jess, thank you for all your love and support.
“You’ve been with me every step of the way. You’ve been my rock and keeping that belief…”
It’s at that point the 37-year-old has to stop after being visibly overcome by the emotions of it all.
After a quick “sorry” to the camera, he continues.

“Thank you for everything you’ve sacrificed for me to live out my dream.”
He goes on to pay tribute to his two young daughters, whom he claims eclipsed everything achieved in his career on the field.
“To our girls Lily and Nora, you were my greatest achievement,” he said.
“It’s meant everything to have you in the stands to watch me play.
“I can’t wait for the next chapter and to spend more time with you both.
“I leave the game with so much pride and gratitude.
“For now, it’s time to say goodbye.
“Thank you. Diolch.”
Former mentor Neil Jenkins led the tributes to the Gorseinon product, who represented Cardiff, Toulon, Scarlets, Crusaders and Harlequins in a storied career.
“He’s an incredible person, I’ll be honest with you, and I’ve nothing but a huge amount of time and respect for him,” he told WalesOnline.
“I’d like to think we’ve got a pretty special relationship and there’s no doubting he’s a special person.
“What I see him doing now, helping young kids and professionals get better, says everything about him if I’m honest. An incredible person and an amazing rugby player.”
