‘No question mark’ over Rohl’s Rangers future after board talks

Danny Rohl says he has been assured of his position as Rangers head coach by the Ibrox board.

Rangers have suffered three straight defeats in the Scottish Premiership and will finish third behind Hearts and Celtic, while Rohl has been linked with a move to Bundesliga club Wolfsburg.

Rohl replaced Russell Martin at Rangers in October and narrowed the gap to Hearts at the top before their recent collapse, which means they will end the campaign without silverware once more.

That failure and the nature of their defeat by rivals Celtic on Sunday has led to calls for Rohl to go from sections of the Rangers fanbase.

However, the German insists there is “no question” he will be in charge in Govan next season.

“Yes,” Rohl said when asked if he had been given promises about his future at Ibrox.

“I think the last 48 hours, there was unbelievable support from the board. Everyone around me sees a lot of positive things, but we are also critical of ourselves. I think there’s no question mark.”

It will be another summer rebuild at Rangers with captain James Tavernier leaving after 11 years and multiple loan deals coming to an end.

Rohl says the club need more authority figures in the squad and believes he and the board are on the same page when it comes to the summer’s recruitment.

“The most important thing is it is what I have said many times, we have to take all the information and what we need into the new season,” he said.

“I think you can imagine, with Tav we lose the captain and it means for us, this is a big signal as well.

“We need new leaders, more leaders for the dressing room, to set our standards that we want on the training pitch, in difficult moments in the game.

“I think this is crucial. This is a great opportunity to work on this.

“Yesterday, conversations again with the club and you can really trust me, I’m very clear, especially also after the last three weeks, what we need to be top, top, top.”
