Russian two-time Olympic figure skating pairs champion Artur Dmitriev has died aged 58.

Dmitriev was the first figure skater to win Olympic gold with two different partners.

He won the title with Natalia Mishkutionok for the Unified Team at the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics.

He then claimed a second gold with Oksana Kazakova in the 1998 Games in Nagano, Japan, representing Russia.

The Russian figure skating federation confirmed his death in a statement.

“We regret to announce the passing of Artur Valeryevich Dmitriev, a two-time Olympic champion and three-time European champion in pairs figure skating,” it said.

Dmitriev, who was born in Ukraine but raised in Russia’s Arctic city of Norilsk, later became a figure skating coach in Moscow and St Petersburg while his son, also named Artur Dmitriev, is also a coach.
