Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has rejoined Turkish side Trabzonspor on loan for the 2026-27 season.

There will be no option to buy within the agreement but Trabzonspor will cover all of Onana’s wages for the duration of the deal.

Trabzonspor will also pay United a loan fee for the 30-year-old Cameroon international with a series of realistic add-ons also included in the arrangement.

A statement from United said the move was subject to international clearance and registration.

Onana made 29 appearances for Trabzonspor last season after being loaned out by United in the wake of their shock EFL Cup defeat at League Two Grimsby last August.

The loss on penalties at Blundell Park was his only United match of the campaign.

He ended the season by helping Trabzonspor lift the Turkish Cup for the first time since 2020.

Onana, a £47.2m signing from Inter Milan in 2023, still has two years left on his United contract and had been scheduled to return for pre-season training on 9 July.

However, he knew there was no chance of ousting Senne Lammens as head coach Michael Carrick’s first choice.

With Lammens with the Belgium squad at the World Cup, the future of United’s number two keeper Altay Bayindir is also uncertain.

Promising youngster Radek Vitek is hoping to get a move before pre-season training starts so Carrick could have some inexperienced goalkeepers, plus veteran Tom Heaton, in his squad for the opening friendly against Wrexham in Helsinki on 17 July.
