Reece James missed England’s final training session before their World Cup last-16 tie against Mexico but Jarell Quansah is available for selection again.

Right-back James has missed England’s past two matches after suffering a hamstring injury in the closing stages of the goalless draw with Ghana.

The Chelsea defender, 26, is yet to train fully with the squad since the injury and was the only absent player for Saturday’s session in Mexico City.

The Football Association told BBC Sport that James was following his own individual programme away from the training field.

There was positive news however with regards to Quansah, who has returned to full training and will be fit to face Mexico (Monday, 01:00 BST).

Quansah, who can play at centre-back or full-back, suffered a hamstring injury in the draw with Panama, but his return to fitness eases Thomas Tuchel’s concerns at right-back.

Djed Spence was selected at right-back for the victory over DR Congo but midfielder Declan Rice finished the match in that position.

The Arsenal midfielder has been carrying a hamstring issue but is set to be available for the tie at the Azteca stadium.
