Brentford midfielder Jordan Henderson is expected to join Chelsea on a two-year contract following his release from the Bees.

The England international signed for the Bees last summer after Christian Norgaard‘s exit to Arsenal. He had a solid season on his return to the Premier League.

Chelsea recently made surprise contact with the former Liverpool captain, and Fabrizio Romano reports that he will now sign a two-year contract for a free transfer.

New Blues manager Xabi Alonso has looked to add more experience to the club’s ranks, and Henderson can expect to play a key role off the bench next season.

Alongside Henderson, the Blues are also closing in on the transfer of experienced striker Danny Welbeck from Brighton & Hove Albion for a nominal fee.

The Seagulls have accepted a package of around £3.5m for the 35-year-old striker, who netted 13 goals in the Premier League during the previous campaign.

Manchester United also explored a possibility of signing him earlier this year, but they have not made a renewed approach for the Englishman.
