Manslaughter charge after man’s dog bite death

A man has been charged with manslaughter over the death of a man who was bitten by a dog on a footpath in West Yorkshire.
A 55-year-old man was left critically injured in an altercation on a disused railway line off Blacker Lane in Calder Grove, Wakefield, at about 13:30 BST on Saturday and died in hospital at about 19:00 the same day, according to police.
Lee Ellis, 55, of Blacker Lane, had since been charged with manslaughter and being the owner/person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death, a West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said.
Ellis had been remanded in custody and was due to appear at Leeds Magistrates’ Court later, they said.
A German Shepherd dog, understood to have been involved in the incident, had been seized by police officers and remained in police kennels, the spokesperson added.
