Robbie Savage has been offered the manager’s job at Peterborough United, his current club Forest Green Rovers have said.

It was reported on Monday that former Wales international Savage had been given permission to speak to another club and that the 51-year-old would not be in the dugout for Tuesday’s National League game against Wealdstone.

In a statement,, external Rovers chairman Dale Vince said: “We have given Robbie Savage permission to speak to Peterborough.

“He wanted to leave the club for personal reasons, reasons which we understand and respect.

“He’s been offered the job and we’re now in a negotiation with Peterborough on the terms. We wish Robbie the very best.”

Peterborough sacked previous boss Luke Williams on 19 September following a poor start to the season.

They are 23rd in League One with just one win in their first eight league games.

Savage, who was capped 39 times by Wales, was appointed by Forest Green in July 2025, having previously managed non-league Macclesfield.

The 51-year-old, who played as a midfielder for clubs including Derby County, Birmingham City, Leicester City and Blackburn Rovers, guided Forest Green to seventh in the table last season but they were beaten in the play-off eliminators.

This season they are 12th after 10 matches, with four wins, two draws and four defeats.
