Ben Cabango believes Swansea’s “humble” approach is paying dividends as they look forward to games against Millwall and West Ham United sitting top of the Championship.

The Wales defender helped his side once again hit back from 1-0 down, this time to beat Norwich, as the league campaign resumed following a four-game international break.

Cabango says boss Vitor Matos’ ethos is paying off and building confidence at Swansea.com Stadium.

“The main thing is we can feel real togetherness and the character,” said the club’s 26-year-old skipper.

“I feel like that’s the third time I think we’ve come back from 1-0 nil down this season. I don’t think there’s ever any panic when we do go one-nil down.”

Swansea have lost just once this season – away at Southampton – and have three wins and two draws at home.

“There’s real belief right now in the squad, and we’re playing with that confidence, aggression, like constantly, and that comes from the gaffer,” added Cabango.

“Every game, he’s always saying ‘treat the next game like the cup final’ and we don’t look too far ahead.

“We’re a humble squad and just pushing to get better every day.”

Iconic Swansea manager John Toshack was there to see the comeback against Norwich, with Cabango acknowledging excitement among their fans at leading the promotion race cannot be ignored.

“I can already feel that, to be honest with you. Even the Swans fans [and] us as a team, we obviously are excited.

“But we’ve had a real good start. It’s given us a great platform to build off, and we’ve just got to carry on.”

Doing so will mean heading to Millwall on Tuesday – before hosting third-placed West Ham on Saturday – under no illusions as to what lies ahead.

“We know what to expect going to Millwall away,” said Cabango.

“It’s always going to be a physical game, demanding game, and the set pieces, the long balls. It’s going to be a tough test and a different one to today [against Norwich].

“But we’re going to obviously recover, prepare for it, and go in with that confidence and belief, like we do.”

Cabango confident after intense Wales duty

On a personal level, it also means no let-up for Cabango after returning from top-tier Nations League duty that saw Wales lose to Portugal then Denmark twice, while also claiming Norway’s scalp.

Cabango returned to club action feeling “confident” having earned wide praise for the way he marshalled Erling Haaland during Wales’ win against Norway.

“Four games in two weeks is always going to be hard, and playing against the opposition, you do, it’s really intense,” said Cabango.

He believes Swansea shook off their international-break “rustiness” against Norwich after an extended period away from domestic football.

“We came looking a new team really, and it was real positive to come from a goal behind and get the three points,” he added.
