An application for bail is to be made on the behalf of Daniel Kinahan in due course, the Special Criminal Court has heard.

The application will be made through the High Court in Dublin.

Darragh Mackin of Phoenix Law, who is Kinahan’s solicitor, appeared in court on Monday where he confirmed an application will be made for bail.

Kinahan is charged with directing the activities of a criminal organisation between 18 October 2015 and 6 April 2017.

Mackin also told the court Kinahan’s defence legal team is looking for an expert to examine the digital evidence and that they are seeking information on other international investigations that Kinahan was acquitted of.

The prosecuting barrister from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) said there is “complex factual matrix” behind Kinahan’s single charge.

He told the court that behind Kinahan’s extradition from Dubai earlier this year, a statement of facts which is 189 pages long was behind it.

Kinahan was remanded and scheduled to appear in person at court again on 21 December.

The DPP barrister said the book of evidence should be ready by that time.

This is Kinahan’s third time before the special criminal court and second time he appeared in person.

He was dressed in a grey suit with a black shirt and black glasses.

Kinahan was arrested in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in April and extradited on 9 August when he was flown back to Ireland on board the Irish government’s jet.
