A 27-year-old woman has been charged after a police officer was shot in Nottingham city centre.

Nottinghamshire Police said the officer was shot in the foot after he approached a man and a woman at a bus stop in Angel Row shortly before 04:50 BST on Sunday.

The male officer remains in hospital receiving treatment, the force added.

Aisha Zaman, of Collison Street, Hyson Green, has been charged with possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of that firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Nottinghamshire Police has said on Friday the charge comes after “consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service”.

Zaman has been remanded into custody and will appear before Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Friday, police added.

Several other people have been arrested in connection with the incident, including two men, aged 24 and 30, and two women, aged 25 and 21, who have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A 35-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman have also been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and assisting an offender. Both remain in police custody.

Det Ch Supt Rich Bull, who is leading the investigation, said the “outpouring of support” for the officer had been “greatly appreciated”.

“We would just like to take this moment to thank the public”, he added.

“We continue to support him as he undergoes further treatment in hospital and keeping him and his family fully informed of the developments in this investigation.”

He said officers were “still following a number of lines of inquiry”, and anyone with information has been asked to contact the force.
