Great Britain’s Joe Fraser bounced back from the disappointment of Wednesday’s team final to win all-around bronze at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam.

The 27-year-old finished with a score of 83.531 after the six disciplines to become just the third British man to win a world all-around medal, after Dan Keatings and Max Whitlock won silver in 2009 and 2014 respectively.

Japan’s Daiki Hashimoto scored 85.988 to win his fourth successive all-around gold at a World Championships, while China’s Haonan Yang took silver with 84.199.

Britain’s Jake Jarman narrowly missed out on the podium with a score of 82.865, but his sixth-place finish means it is the best result by a pair of British men in the all-around event at a World Championships.

Fraser celebrated his bronze medal with a thumb-sucking gesture – a nod to his pregnant girlfriend who was watching from home.

“I’ve got a pregnant girlfriend at home with four weeks to go, we’ve had a team final to qualify for the Olympic Games and sadly didn’t make it and I’ve gone out there today and managed to pick up a bronze medal,” Fraser told BBC Sport.

“It’s been a real whirlwind but I have loved every second and I’m grateful to be out there in amongst the best in the world.

“We had a lot of fun out there. It’s just the icing on the cake to bring this home.”

Britain finished fourth in the men’s team event on Wednesday which meant they failed to book their place at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, although they will get another chance to qualify at next year’s World Championships.

Jarman, who will compete in the floor final on Saturday, believes the British team “have a lot to give” before LA 2028.

“The potential that we’ve got looking to LA, it’s promising, it’s exciting,” he told BBC Sport.

“I think we have got a lot to give and I can’t wait to see where we are in two years’ time.”
