OutKick founder Clay Travis shared his take on soccer legend Megan Rapinoe‘s controversial comment that sports are not fair.
In a clip from “The Clay Travis Show” posted on X on Friday, Travis criticized Rapinoe’s argument, which generated discussion on social media.
“This is so crazy,” Travis said. “First of all, it’s not true. The rules of sports are designed to be fair. … Megan Rapinoe would not have an athletic career if men were allowed to compete in women’s sports. Worst of all, she waited until her career was over to then say, ‘Oh, I’m fine with men competing in women’s sports.’
“I find her to be completely and utterly, Megan Rapinoe, that is, unlikeable.”
In an episode of the “Who’s With Me with W. Kamau Bell” podcast on Oct. 21, Rapinoe defended the inclusion of transgender athletes in women’s sports and argued that sports were not intended to be “fair.”
“God forbid, somebody be good at sports and have some sort of advantage, which, by the way, sports is not fair in any sort of way ever. Right? … I’m like, ‘What’s fair?’ What does that mean, even? It’s already not fair, and also, just like, it isn’t the most important thing in the world over someone’s human rights or getting to play or being cruel to people.”
Rapinoe, a two-time World Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist with the U.S. women’s national team, has been a prominent supporter of transgender participation in women’s sports.
Rapinoe was in a long-term relationship with WNBA legend Sue Bird for nearly a decade before announcing their separation and the end of their engagement in April.
Spurs star Victor Wembanyama was mentioned in Megan Rapinoe’s viral ‘sports isn’t fair’ comment
In the same podcast, host W. Kamau Bell mentioned San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama as Megan Rapinoe argued about fairness in sports.
“I always point to Victor Wembanyama. Is that fair?” Bell said on Oct. 21.
Bell and Rapinoe tried to compare Wembanyama’s 7-foot-4 height advantage to that of a transgender athlete competing in women’s sports.
In a tweet on Friday, OutKick reporter Jon Root criticized Bell and Rapinoe, saying that their reference to Wembanyama was laughable.
