Taylor Swift’s name made it on HBO’s “Real Time” on Friday, October 30. Host Bill Maher spent most of his monologue on Donald Trump’s Truth Social attack, which ran past 1,300 words and described him as a “complete and total loser.”
Trump published the rant the previous Sunday, after his second White House dinner with Maher on October 15, which also included Kid Rock and ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith.
Thanks for the submission!
In it, Trump called Maher a “COMPLETE AND TOTAL LOSER” and a “major POTHEAD,” wrote that Maher “doesn’t think it was a good thing to take the Nuclear Weapon away from Iran,” claimed he “calls him incessantly” and “invited himself to the White House,” and signed off, “Bill: Don’t call anymore.”

“Did you see the 1,300-word tweet he sent out? Longest ever. Kind of a flex,” Maher said, as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter. Then came the line that traveled: “Eating with Trump is like dating Taylor Swift. It’s a lot of laughs at the time, but later on, they’re tearing you a new a**hole.”
Swift is Travis Kelce’s wife now, which is what gives the joke its edge. They married at Madison Square Garden on July 3, and her catalog is full of songs fans read as postmortems on finished relationships.
Maher answered the Iran claim with clips of himself backing the strike: “So, am I smart now?” On the calls, he said: “I’ve never called you. You call me. I’d be afraid to call you. You’re the president. I think you’re too busy. Well, plainly not.”
He leaned into the pothead line: “I guess the cat’s out of the bag now, huh? Boy, that explains a lot. I thought I was just happy.” Then he grew earnest. “I don’t want it to be this way,” he said. “The whole point of having these dinners was talk, disagree, but listen, which he does in person, but don’t hate each other.”
The Independent said it had approached the White House and Swift’s representative for comment. The News reported that Trump had not publicly responded to the monologue.
Travis Kelce Reacts to Prince William Throwing Shade Over Taylor Swift Selfie
On “The Graham Norton Show” on October 23, Prince William was shown the backstage selfie from Taylor Swift’s Wembley Stadium show in June 2024, the photo that made her relationship with Kelce Instagram official, and said he had not grasped its significance.
“I hadn’t appreciated the significance, and actually, I was trying to move him out of the photo,” William said. “But Travis kept coming back in, and I couldn’t work out why he kept coming back in. I was trying to move him out so it was just me and Taylor Swift and the children.”
Kelce answered on the October 28 episode of “New Heights,” the podcast he co-hosts with his brother Jason.
“I get it, man,” he said, according to Billboard. “I was just a boyfriend at that point. I wasn’t her husband yet. We don’t really know if this is gonna last, so it’s kinda just, ‘Move out of the way real quick so we can keep this photo forever.’”
Jason suggested the podcast’s graphics team could give the prince what he wanted by editing Kelce out.
