Rain Stops Play: What will be India’s revised targets if overs are lost in NZ vs IND 2026 1st ODI?

This post was originally published on this site.

India were 54 for one in 10.5 overs when rain stopped play in the opening ODI of the five-match series against New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland on Wednesday, November 4. Chasing 186 to win, Virat Kohli was 29 not out from 27 balls with five fours, and Shubman Gill unbeaten on 32-ball 17.

Rohit Sharma’s return lasted six balls. He pushed at Kyle Jamieson in the opening over and Mitchell Santner dived forward at mid-off to hold on to the catch. India need a further 132 runs from 39.1 overs at 3.37 an over.

If the weather cuts the chase, Duckworth-Lewis-Stern sets a new target, with New Zealand’s total counting as a full innings of resources because they were bowled out. Overs will be lost from 12:50 pm IST. Below are India’s potential revised targets:

If 10 overs are lost: 167 in 40 overs; If 20 overs are lost: 137 in 30 overs; If 30 overs are lost: 92 in 20 overs

The par scores at the end of the 20th over show the score India need to be above if rain ends the match there: 47 for 1, 59 for 2, 73 for 3 and 91 for 4.

New Zealand bundled out for 185 in NZ vs IND 2026 1st ODI

New Zealand were bowled out for 185 in 40.2 overs after India captain Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to field. Tim Seifert made 38 from 43 balls, Glenn Phillips 30 from 51 and Daryl Mitchell 28. No. 11 Blair Tickner’s 34 from 23 balls, with four sixes, and a 39-run last-wicket stand with Jacob Duffy lifted the hosts from 146 for 9.

Arshdeep Singh took 4 for 70, Gurnoor Brar 3 for 44 and Anshul Kamboj 2 for 22 as India’s four specialist seamers, with 29 ODIs between them, used the overcast conditions. New Zealand were without Devon Conway, ruled out of the opener with a concussion he suffered in a training collision with Matt Henry, and Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman are out of the series. The toss was delayed by 20 minutes and play began 10 minutes late, but no overs were lost.

20 overs a side is the minimum for a result. A reduction made after play resumes is recalculated from the score at the interruption rather than the start of the innings.
