Two teenage boys have been charged after reports of people carrying bladed weapons in Edinburgh city centre.

Specialist firearms officers were called to Rose Street, at the junction of Hanover Street, on Friday afternoon.

Images from the scene show a young man carrying what appears to be a large machete, a short distance from other pedestrians. No-one was injured in the incident.

A 17-year-old, who was later arrested, is due to appear before Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday.

Police Scotland also said a 15-year-old had been reported to youth justice authorities.

A force spokesperson added inquiries into the incident were ongoing.

Det Insp Alan Sharp said: “I would urge anyone who may have been in the area at the time and has not yet spoken to police to get in touch.”
