Huddersfield Town have named former Norwich City and Bristol City boss Liam Manning as head coach on a “long-term contract”.
The 40-year-old takes the helm at the Accu Stadium just three days after Lee Grant was sacked.
Grant was just eight months into a three-year deal with the Terriers and was dismissed with the club sixth in the League One table.
“I am thankful to have been given the trust of such a prestigious role, and I’ll do everything in my power to create some positive history of our own,” Manning said.
“Inheriting an extremely talented and capable first-team squad and staff, I look forward to working closely with them all as we strive to fulfil our potential.
“We have a lot to still play for this season, and I’m truly excited to get going.”
Manning himself lasted just five months in his last job at Norwich, having been relieved of his duties at Carrow Road in November when the Canaries were second from bottom in the Championship.
He took that job in Norfolk just months after leading Bristol City into the Championship play-offs for the first time since 2008.
Manning has previously reached the League One play-offs when in charge of MK Dons in 2022, while he guided Oxford into the automatic promotion places in the third tier during the 2023-24 season before departing for Ashton Gate.
Having taken his first training session on Tuesday, Manning will be in charge for Saturday’s League One fixture against fellow promotion-chasers Bradford City.
Following his appointment, the club said that further details of his coaching team will be “confirmed in due course” but Chris Hogg has worked with Manning as assistant at MK Dons, Oxford, Bristol City and Norwich.
“An ambitious appointment that even six months ago would’ve likely been seen as unrealistic, Liam is an impressive person and professional,” sporting director Chris Markham added.
“His progressive and pragmatic approach to coaching share many of the ideals and characteristics that the club, and most importantly our supporters, value highest.”
