England v Scotland, Under-19s World Cup, Harare
England 404-6 (50 overs): Mayes 191, Moores 81; Woodhouse 3-88
Scotland: Yet to bat
Ben Mayes struck the highest score by an England player in the Under-19s World Cup in their group-stage match against Scotland in Harare.
Hampshire’s Mayes, 18, hammered 191 – falling one short of the overall record tournament score of 192, set by Sri Lanka’s Viran Chamuditha against Japan four days ago.
The right-hander, who was batting at number three, smashed 18 fours and eight sixes in his blistering 117-ball knock.
He was well supported by Lancashire’s Joe Moores – nephew of former England coach Peter – who hit 81 off 65 balls in a second-wicket stand of 188.
Mayes takes the national record from Dan Lawrence, who hit 174 for England against Fiji in 2016.
England finished on 404-6 – the seventh-highest score in tournament history and the first time England themselves have passed 400.
Scotland are yet to bat.
