WRU bosses questioned LIVE: MPs grill governing body on crisis

This post was originally published on this site.

A dramatic day is set to unfold in London as the Welsh Rugby Union’s most powerful bosses are grilled by MPs in a Welsh Affairs Committee hearing.

It comes as the WRU finds itself in the eye of an almighty storm following the decision to choose Ospreys owners Y11 Sports & Media as their preferred bidder for Cardiff in a move that looks set to pave the way for them to deliver their plan to cut from four to three professional teams.

That plan to reduce the number of sides will be the focus of the hearing, with MPs demanding to know why the union thinks it is the best way forward and how it will impact the game.

CEO Abi Tierney and chair Richard Collier-Keywood, who faces the threat of an EGM to oust him, will be in the hot-seat as their answers are scrutinised by politicians and fans following events. You can follow it all live right here.

Tierney and Collier-Keywood are due to give evidence at 2.30pm, followed by supporter representatives from the four Welsh regions.

Welsh rugby is embroiled in its most toxic battle yet, and today’s events are sure to be fascinating and spark huge reaction and debate.
