How much Joe Marler was really paid for Celebrity Traitors after disagreement

This post was originally published on this site.

Joe Marler opened up on the actual sum of money he received for his appearance on the hit BBC show The Celebrity Traitors

Joe Marler revealed he was paid £30,000 for his appearance on The Celebrity Traitors last year.

The former England rugby player was the breakout star of the popular BBC spin-off series, which aired between October and November 2025.

Marler reached the final episode of the show but ultimately failed to convince his fellow ‘Faithfuls’ that Alan Carr was a ‘Traitor’, which saw him voted out of the game in a late twist that made Carr the winner of a prize sum for charity.

Despite suffering heartbreak on the show’s first Celebrity edition, the Harlequins legend was reported to have been paid a hefty sum for his appearance. Unlike the regular series, which concludes this week, the celebrities received a flat-rate for participating instead of a daily rate.

Richard Osman and journalist Marina Hyde appeared to reveal the details on their podcast The Rest Is Entertainment last year, with Hyde claiming everyone received the same payment or £40,000 for the nine one-hour episodes, filmed over three weeks in a Scottish highlands castle.

“They were able to pay everybody a blanket £40k fee, right? I am spilling all my tea today. They’re paying them a £40k fee,” Marina said. However, Marler revealed after the show ended that this wasn’t accurate.

When asked by The Times about his earnings and the rumoured £40,000 sum, Marler replied: “Yeah, Daisy (his wife) read that too. She said to me, ‘Hold on, I thought you only got 30?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I did.'”

He then explained that he didn’t believe they all received identical payments. That didn’t bother him, however, as £30,000 was still a substantial sum of money.

“No, I don’t think everyone got paid the same,” Marler added. “But I’m not bothered. It was 30 grand whether you lasted two days or three weeks – a no-brainer.”

Marler, across his illustrious 15-year rugby union career, is said to have raked in close to £4million, thanks to his sponsorships, podcast, various other ventures and his final contract, which earned him £450,000-a-year.

The 35-year-old reached the final stages despite the Faithfuls’ poor performance throughout the series, where they struggled on several roundtables before finally managing to eliminate a traitor in Jonathan Ross.

Marler was the only Faithful to correctly guess Cat Burns and Carr were the remaining Traitors, charming viewers with his unique personality and impressive investigating skills in the process before being targeted himself.

Since then, the ex-England prop has emerged as one of the real winners of the show thanks to his rising popularity, which has opened more doors for him following his retirement from rugby in 2024.

One such example is his new podcast, Joe Marler Will See You Now. The podcast, which debuted on November 13, sees Marler welcoming famous guests to his ‘clinic’ for mock psychological assessments.
