Getty ImagesThe Football Association has commissioned a Universal Music Group company to create anthems for both the men’s and women’s FA Cup tournaments.
The music will be played before every match, in a similar manner to the Champions League anthem.
The FA plans to appoint a British composer to create separate theme music for the men’s and women’s competitions.
The music will also be given to broadcasters to be used in their television coverage of the tournaments. The rights for the men’s FA Cup are shared by BBC and TNT, while Channel 4 and TNT both broadcast the Women’s FA Cup.
Sources have told BBC Sport the anthems will not replace Abide With Me, which is played at the FA Cup final.
The tradition of singing the hymn began in 1927 when Cardiff City beat Arsenal 1-0 at Wembley.
The Champions League anthem was created by British composer Tony Britten in 1992 and has become iconic, with former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane calling it “magical”.
In 2015, Uefa introduced an anthem for the Europa League, which the Europa Conference League later adopted.
