Wing Josh Adams is hoping Wales can prove to Argentina and South Africa they have moved on since Steve Tandy’s side suffered heavy November losses to the two southern hemisphere sides.

The Pumas won 52-28 in Tandy’s first game in charge, while the Springboks inflicted a 73-0 hammering in Cardiff eight month ago.

Wales conceded 125 points in those two matches at the Principality Stadium and now travel to face the same opposition on successive Saturdays.

Wales are experiencing a mini-revival after Test wins against Italy and Fiji but know they face a major task by travelling to face Argentina and South Africa in their own backyards.

“I’d like to think that they will see a progression in our game,” said 31-year-old Adams.

The Cardiff wing is one of six surviving players from the Wales squad that enjoyed a 2-0 series win against Argentina eight years ago. He knows the next fortnight will be a significant step up for Steve Tandy’s developing squad.

“It will certainly be a different test again going to Argentina, going to San Juan and playing there,” said Adams.

“I played there back in 2018 and I won.

“So I know how tough it is and I know how good the Argentinians are at the minute. So when you talk about tests, that’s right up there.”

Adams, who toured South Africa with the British and Irish Lions in 2021, also knows the following week could be tougher still.

“Then it is the little matter of the world champions in Durban,” he added.

“So we’ve got some tests coming up and it’ll be a good gauge of where this team is at in the next two weeks.”

Adams scored a brilliant individual try against Argentina eight years ago and he also popped up against Fiji with an outstanding opportunistic effort that happened in bizarre fashion.

Adams was chasing a speculative chip from Wales centre Joe Hawkins that Fiji wing Selestino Ravutaumada attempted to let dribble over the dead-ball line.

Adams stunned his opposite number, sliding in to touch the ball down and put Wales 12 points ahead.

“It’s one of those cliches, isn’t it? You just don’t give up on anything,” said Adams.

“It was a decent kick from Joe and what do they say? The kick is only as good as its chase. So you always chase.

“I got lucky I guess, but if you don’t chase hard you don’t get those chances.

“So that is a lesson to any young wing, that it’s so important to chase the ball as hard you can, because you never know what might happen.”
