The competition between WWE and AEW is fierce. The Tony Khan-led promotion will host Blood & Guts 2026 in Jacksonville, Florida, next week, on Wednesday. Interestingly, WWE will run NXT that same day. Furthermore, NXT will feature popular star Cody Rhodes and the legendary John Cena.
WWE has been counterprogramming AEW for years at this point. Even though this has not hindered All Elite Wrestling’s progress, it’s quite obvious that the Stamford-based company tries to stay on top. NXT usually takes place on Tuesday nights. However, it will happen on Wednesday next week.
Fans on X were stunned by WWE announcing Cena and Rhodes for NXT. While some believe that All Elite Wrestling should cancel their upcoming TV special because of this, others have no intention of missing the show. Loyal fans of the Tony Khan-led company wrote that the sports entertainment juggernaut is scared due to the former’s continued success.

Blood & Guts has the potential to be one of the best shows of the promotion’s history. Hopefully, NXT will not sabotage the event.
AEW president Tony Khan tried to sign WWE legend Kurt Angle
In a recent interview with DAZN News, WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle revealed that AEW president Tony Khan gave him an offer. However, the two parties could not agree on a deal. Nevertheless, the Olympic gold medalist has immense respect for Khan.
“Tony Khan called me. He wanted me to do a match or two or three. And I gave him just a really high offer. Like, ridiculously high offer. I said, Tony, ‘if you want me to wrestle, it’s going to cost you this much’. I can’t tell you the amount. He was like, Kurt, I’m sorry, I’d love to hire you, but I can’t do that. So Tony was really cool, he was really nice to me. I think he’s doing a tremendous job, and it’s great to have another company that’s thriving the way AEW is,” he said.
All Elite Wrestling is expected to end this year on a strong note. Only time will tell what the future holds for the company.
