Alexander Zverev’s girlfriend Sophia Thomalla shared an unseen picture with her longtime partner after the German ended Jannik Sinner’s reign to become the new number one.
The two-time major champion officially sealed his ascension to the summit of men’s tennis for the first time in his career by storming into the quarterfinals of the Erste Bank Open in Vienna with a straight-sets win over Tallon Griekspoor on Thursday.
Thanks for the submission!
A day later, Thomalla took to Instagram and posted a rare picture on her Stories. There wasn’t any caption, but the image echoed their love, showing Zverev kissing Thomalla’s hand in a tender moment.

Alexander Zverev and Sophia Thomalla’s love started to blossom in 2020. The high-profile pair made their love public in late 2021. Reports suggest Zverev met the famed actor and presenter after their mutual friends introduced them in Germany.
They initially spent time as friends before their bond turned romantic. The 29-year-old has often credited Thomalla for bringing peace to his life.
Alexander Zverev expresses delight after becoming new World No. 1
By reaching the summit, Alexander Zverev inscribed his name into tennis lore, considering he became the second oldest player to claim the World No. 1 ranking for the first time. At 29 years and six months, Zverev sits behind John Newcombe, who reached the top at 30.
“[It is] very special. To have the feeling to be on the top of the world is amazing. It is different than winning a tournament or a title, but it’s such a special feeling to know that the No. 1 is going to be next to your name when the new rankings come out,” Alexander Zverev said (via ATP).
The latest feat joins Zverev’s long list of accolades, which feature two ATP Finals crowns, two Grand Slams, an Olympic gold medal and seven ATP Masters 1000 trophies. He joins Boris Becker as only the second German man to hold the top ranking and is guaranteed to bring home the ATP Year-End No. 1 honor.
He got his hands on his first major title at the French Open and added another in New York at the US Open. He is currently in Vienna looking to add more titles before the Paris Masters and the year-ending showpiece event, the ATP Finals in Turin.
At the ATP 500 event in Vienna, Alexander Zverev took another step closer to the title, dismantling Arthur Fery in a lopsided 6-0, 6-2 win to enter the semifinals.
