Andy Burnham is the new prime minister of the UK.
After Keir Starmer formally resigned, Burnham took over as the seventh PM in the last 10 years.
Speaking in Downing Street, Burnham repeated his pledge to take power out of Whitehall and “carry it into every postcode in the land”.
Saying “this moment will be a circuit breaker for Britain” and promising to give the public “more breathing room”, he said he will announce measures to tackle the cost of living on Tuesday, and a new 10-year plan for Britain by the end of this year.
