Arsenal and Chelsea made proposals to sign Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, according to his representative Felix Tainta.

The Spaniard is one of the best left wingers in La Liga, but he has endured a mixed spell with injuries over the last 18 months.

His agent has now revealed that Arsenal and Chelsea made offers for Williams in the past, but the winger decided to stay put.

Barcelona came closest to signing him in the summer of 2025, but the attacker ended up penning a fresh 10-year contract at Athletic.

Williams was concerned about the assurance of regular playing time and felt he needed to stay at Athletic to secure a World Cup spot.

The decision proved worthwhile for the 24-year-old. He featured as a substitute and eventually bagged the assist for the World Cup winner.

Williams has had another injury disrupted season with Athletic and it appears he won’t be leaving the club anytime soon after the long-term deal.
