Xabi Alonso confirms injury for Chelsea defender

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed that Pep Chavarria missed the Premier League win over Everton due to injury.

The Spaniard had a good game against Bournemouth last weekend, but he was a surprise absentee against Everton on the road.

Jorrel Hato replaced him in the left wing-back position, and he made the most of the chance with the assist for the opening goal.

Speaking after the game, Alonso revealed that Chavarria was sidelined for the game after picking up an injury in the last training session.

He said: “Pep, in the last session of training, felt something.”

The game saw goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez suffer a nasty head injury, and the club have yet to publish an update on his condition.

With today’s 2-0 win, Chelsea have moved to fourth in the league standings and are assured of staying there for the weekend.

Chelsea‘s next game will be at home against Tottenham Hotspur next Saturday. They should be favourites to beat them too.
