BREAKING: BCCI relocates opening India vs Sri Lanka ODI out of Delhi

The opening one-day international of the upcoming bilateral series between India and Sri Lanka has been moved from Delhi to Visakhapatnam, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Thursday.

The match will remain on its scheduled date of December 13 and will be staged at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, starting at 2 p.m. local time.

Cricket’s national governing body confirmed that the relocation came after a formal request from local officials.

“The venue change has been made following a request from the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), in view of the potential weather disruption and the proposed renovation work at the stadium,” the BCCI stated in a media advisory signed by honorary secretary Devajit Saikia.

The fixture launches a six-match white-ball tour featuring three ODIs followed by three Twenty20 internationals across six Indian cities.

Following the Visakhapatnam opener, the 50-over leg heads south to Bengaluru on December 16 before concluding in Ahmedabad on December 19. Both subsequent ODIs are scheduled to start at 2 p.m.

The tour will then transition to the shortest format, beginning with the first T20 international in Rajkot on December 22. Teams will travel to Cuttack for the second T20 on December 24, with the series finale set for Pune on December 27. All three T20 matches are slated to start at 7 p.m.

India vs Sri Lanka head-to-head in ODIs

India holds a decisive advantage over Sri Lanka in one-day international cricket, winning 99 of the 171 matches played between the subcontinental rivals since their first meeting in 1979.

Sri Lanka has emerged victorious on 59 occasions, while 11 fixtures produced no result and two ended in a tie.

The record represents India’s highest victory count against any single nation in 50-over cricket. India has proved especially formidable on home soil, securing 40 victories in 55 matches.

The Men in Blue will be in search of their 100th win over Sri Lanka in the upcoming three-match ODI series.
